Value discussions

Thanks to a well structured program of participatory discussions about pedagogical topics, we share and encourage women to practice values in their daily experiences.

Our country, the DR Congo, offers a variety of cultural expressions thanks to the number of tribes and ethnic groups. All these customs and traditions imply a great deal of cultural values. We believe that the problem of our society is rather an issue of moral than intellectual, simply because people fail to practice virtues or values.

That is why, once a week, during our weekly meeting, women develop a topic centered on a given value that they discuss. During the following week the women then practice to live according to this value. The values can be for instance solidarity, love, hospitality, honesty, etc. Once a month all our beneficiaries and AFIA-FEV members meet to explore more deeply values chosen as topics.

This program helps the AFIA-FEV to stay in contact with the recipients, to listen to their life-stories so that they can be given any kind of support the AFIA-FEV offers. Most rape survivors were confident in our sensitizers. The result is that 125 women recipients and association members are aware of their serological status and those tested HIV positive receive appropriate cure from specialized health institutions. Those who are not ready to be tested for HIV yet receive more education, so that they perhaps in the future get tested.

We also offer citizenship education, training in cutting and sewing as well as cooking.
